Currently scheduling RNY how far out?

Postby denaf » Sat Jul 12, 2008 10:45 pm

I'm so excited - my information has been sent in for insurance approval. I've heard from others it may take 1-6 weeks to hear from the insurance company. But in the mean time, I'm looking forward to the next step and would like to know how far out the Dr.'s are scheduling surgeries?

For instance, if I got insurance approval tomorrow, what's the time frame following that? Here's what I expect would happen, but could you correct or fill in any blanks I may have left:
- right after insurance approval, make initial consult appt. with my surgeon. What's the time frame for this - like could I schedule it for the next day, or would it be a week out, two weeks?
- go to scheduled Dr. appt for consult and setting a surgery date. So, how far out might the surgery date be? A couple of weeks, or months?

I have a huge - no really a HUGE - project on the near horizon at work and need to factor my surgery into the "gameplan" since I am the only support person they currently have. So, I'd love to get my surgery before this big project starts, if you know what I mean. That's why having some idea of the timeline is important to me. I know you can't give me specifics at all, I just want a ballpark idea.

Thanks much!

Answer: 2-4 weeks

I asked Helen. Due to vacations and an overall abundance of folks scheduling surgeries, they are scheduling anywhere from 2-4+ weeks out.

Ah well.

As of 7/28/08 still waiting on insurance approval.

Update & I finally have a surgery date!

Postby denaf » Sat Sep 20, 2008 11:11 am

Follow up to my original post. don't expect things to happen very quickly, folks. I finally have a surgery date (woo hoo!), but it's taken a lot longer than I'd anticipated - so don't get frustrated. I know it's all for the best and will help insure I'm prepared, it's just that my expectations were so different it was kind of a let-down.
June 2nd - finished the 6 month SFL program and the 8 week pre-op classes, but had not yet done the psych eval.
June 10th - psych eval
June 17th - psych eval follow-up
July 14th - Insurance received my request for approval as sent from SFL
July 21st - Insurance requested more info from SFL - sent
August 6th - called Ins and they'd just approved!!!! Woo hoo!
August 18th - Dr. Lancaster's office called to schedule consult
Sept 18th - Consult appointment w/Dr. Lancaster
Nov 11th - SURGERY DATE! 4 1/2 mos after I finished the SFL program, 3 mos after insurance approval.

At least I'll be having the surgery THIS year since we've already reached the family deductible on our insurance...

Hope this helps anyone else out there - just be realistic, things take time.
